Your approach to basketball is something to admire. I will be getting two copies of your book; one for me and one for my Step-father, he’s in his second year (4th graders) of coaching Basketball and they reached the Finals for the second time, Im sure you have some tips that can help him better some kids through basketball. I remember sitting in Oceanview HS listening to you talk during a basketball camp. That was my first real introduction to Basketball. I have been playing it ever since, 10 years now. I LOVE the sport. In addition, I sat in my sports psychology course at UCLA last spring listening to a talk you gave. It is great to see how things come full circle. Thanks! :)

I have enjoyed the pleasure of meeting you on two seperare instances.
The first time was seven or eight years ago. My son was about eight. He asked you if you ever yelled at your players? I’ll never forget your smile or your answer. You said players don’t execute better when yelled at. But yes, there were times you yelled at them.
I coached a lot of youth basketball and always fought them your zone press. And I always played man to man D.
I am honored to have met you twice. My son asked Ito if you yelled at your players? And after smiling you said it was not you belief that kids executed better when yelled at. Then you smiled again and confessed there were times when you yelled at them
I read your autobiography. And hold you in the highest esteem.
Thank you for the positive effect you have had on my life.

Tonight I used your definition of success in a master class I gave for the clarinet students at the University of South Florida. I told them how your ideas on success had rescued me from the despair of focusing only on results. I now work to focus on what I control: my preparation and effort. Here’s to wishing you a great year ahead. I will forever be grateful for the day I heard you speak at a Sports Psychology class at UCLA which was the most inspirational moment of my life. I passed along your advice “the best thing you can do for your children is to love their mother” and passed it along to my brothers and sisters. It’s one of our favorites. Coach Wooden ~ What I’ve admired most about you is the unparalleled example you set that portrays Christian values through the avenue of sports (ie – Tony Dungy). I played a year of JV ball at Hope College under Coach Glen VanWieren (et al), and I believe that is the legacy he and his staff has created as well. We were successful, yet basketball was a side… and because of that, I have never respected a coach more! Happy 99th and many more. God is not finished with you yet!
