Here’s wishing you the happiest of birthdays on your 99th. I have admired you since I was in high school, and have tried to pattern my coaching philosophy on many of your concepts. I hope that you enjoy good health and many more years.

Happy Birthday Coach!
There have been a lot of great basketball coaches but never a better life coach. For all of the enjoyment you brought to our lives and all of the life you brought to our enjoyment: Thank YOU!
Coach — You’ve put up yet another big number, but more important than the years are the lives you’ve touched.
Dear Coach Wooden:
HAPPY 99TH! Thanks for continuing to teach us about values and leadership. I truly value our friendship.
Mike Krzyzewski
Coach Wooden, best wishes and thanks for being the blessing that you are for all these years. I have been coaching high school boys basketball (and football) for 37 years and have long used your books as guides for my teaching the game. On my bedstand is a copy of the devotions you did with Jay Carty which I use daily. A life like you have lived and continue to live blesses all in the profession and all that we touch through basketball. God bless and thanks.

Hi Coach Wooden,
As a recent UCLA alumni I must say that you remain a great inspiration to those in the Bruin family. Your presence at basketball games coupled with the legacy of wisdom you have built stands as a foundation to the tradition of excellence at our school. Happy Birthday
Just a quick birthday wish to Coach Wooden. Thanks for all you have done for the great game of basketball. Your knowledge and wisdom are second to none. Happy Birthday and wishes for many more!
Coach,
You were so very correct when you famously stated, “Sports doesn’t create character;sports reveals character.” The world has long born witness to your strength of familial and spiritual values, the high moral and ethical compass as evidenced by your role modeling.
What I hope you realize is how far-reaching those lessons travel, for it is not just in the media stories of your UCLA basketball players, like Bill Walton, quoting you on their children’s paper lunch bags. It is generations of English teachers–like me–who use your famous maxims to inspire and motivate students, who often are mired in a home life so barren and devoid of value, that they have a difficult time focusing on the very school work that could one day lift them out of that life. Some of these youngsters play sports and employ the motivation therein, but far many others simply use them to get through their difficult days.
Helen Keller once said, “Be the light you wish to see in the world.” Coach, thank-you for being that light to so many generations whose own personal darkness of spirit and mind sorely needed it. Thank-you for always unequivocally supporting women’s basketball, and for being a continual mentor to UCLA athletes throughout these many years.
God bless you on this birthday and always, from my family to you and yours.

Dear Coach,
A very Happy Birthday from all of us at HBO Sports. We will never forget the screening in Westwood as we presented you with our documentary. And Bill Walton said it was the only time in his many years of admiring you that he saw you shed a tear…Happy 99th to the greatest Coach/Philosopher who ever lived.

Dear Coach,
Your life and testimony are a blessing and inspiration to us here in China. Happy 99th Birthday!
(We had the honor of meeting you at Arthur Hsieh’s client luncheon almost 10 years ago. Shortly after, we followed the Lord’s calling to serve in China and Dick Schultz has been an instrumental mentor in our journey here. We’re privileged to hear his stories about you and his life lessons.)

Dearest Coach Wooden:
I have never met you but feel I know you through my son, Bob Vigars.
You are his mentor.
I wish to convey my heartfelt regards on your upcoming 99th birthday.
Life is truly worth living and each day is a gift from God.
When we look back at the ’steps’ of our life it is worth noting that every step of the way, no matter how difficult it was, taught us something.
Congratulations on living your life to the fullest.
Most respectfully,
Mary Anne Vigars

Dear Coach Wooden:
I have been a die-hard UCLA fan since I was a pre-teen back in the early 70’s growing up in Iowa Hawkeye territory and my love for UCLA has never wavered. Just want to wish you a very, very Happy Birthday and many more. You are the greatest, Coach.

Coach Wooden,
Though we have never met I feel like I have known you most of my 49 years. I have tried to live my personal, family life and run my company as you would have. While UCLA basketball brought me to know you as a child you, it was a very small part of who you are to me today. Your life experiences and teachings are what I remember you for these days. In life there are few people who try to help make others successful in our own life experiences. I truly believe God brought you to us to show that there is still greatness in mankind. Your life on Earth has been a gift from God to all of us. Happy 99th birthday Coach, God bless you and your family.
Thanks for sharing your life with us.
